Iwai-dori – The Celebratory Rooster
Iwai-dori – The Celebratory Rooster
Each Iwai-dori (Celebratory Rooster) is unique in color and size, reflecting the natural variations in handcrafted straw.
For centuries, the rooster has been revered as a divine messenger in Japanese tradition. Its significance dates back to the ancient myth of Tokoyo-no-Naganaki-dori, the sacred bird that crowed to coax Amaterasu Ōmikami, the sun goddess, out of her cave, restoring light to the world.
Additionally, the word “Tori-komu” (to attract fortune) makes the rooster a symbol of prosperity and success in business, making it a favored talisman among merchants and business owners.

The Natural Aging of Straw Crafts
Depending on the environment, the fresh green hue of the straw will gradually fade, transforming into the golden tones of harvested rice straw over time. We invite you to appreciate not only its initial vibrancy but also the graceful aging process that unfolds with the passing of time.
